Visiting La Fortuna Waterfall: Complete Guide

One of the most amazing waterfalls to see in Costa Rica, is the La Fortuna Waterfall. It cascades down over 200 feet into the pools where the water is a beautiful blue surrounded by the lush jungle.

The trip down to this waterfall is a bit of a hike, but it is completely worth it. The beauty of this waterfall makes this one of the best stops while in Costa Rica.

La Fortuna Waterfall Hike

There is a long hike down to the waterfall with about 500 steps going down to the waterfall. Keep in mind that you will need to go back up these 500 steps when heading back, but at a slower pace it is completely doable. The whole hike takes about 30 minutes depending how fast you are.

If you are on a timeline, give the whole experience at least 2 hours to be safe.

Waterfall Entrance Fee and Hours

There is plenty of parking at the entrance to the waterfall and it is completely free to park. Once you park, you can enter the entrance building to purchase the tickets. The tickets are $18 per person for adults and $5 for children.

The waterfall is open every day from 7:30a.m. to 4:00p.m. It is better to go earlier in the day to have plenty of time to hike down to the falls and back.
